4th/5th Grade!
As school begins in September, we meet our reading buddies from kindergarten. Then, almost every Friday afternoon we get together and read with each other. Here we are with our buddies. ('How great they look in their fire hats!)
Dakota with Anthony MacKenzie with Farah and Hailey
Madison with sister Molly Abigail with Taylor
Danny with cousin Zoey Chelsea with Raegan
Dillon with Kyle Dylan with Fisher
Jeffrey with Sean Katrina with Kalani
Lily with Isabella and Kiara Ryan with brother Ross
Following directions is really important in school (in LIFE, for that matter), so our class will have many opportunities to strengthen this skill. Here are some of Mrs. Wessels' previous students making Fudge in a Bag, a recipe right out of our math book. After one minor setback, the fudge was finally finished. Success never tasted so good... or was sooo fun! We can't wait for OUR turn at this!
As the months of October and November turn thoughts to thankfulness, we will be especially thankful for the opportunity to dress up and perform stories from our reading books. Fourth grade will act out "A Wise King and a Wise Son," while fifth grade will prepare "Hans Clodhopper," a variation of one of Hans Christian Anderson's tales. We will "go on tour" and present these plays to other boys and girls on campus. Our families and friends will come watch, too. Until we have pictures of our own plays, here's a photograph from two years ago when that class performed. Bravo! Bravo!
What fun we'll have in January when we'll read Two Years Before the Mast, a novel by Richard Henry Dana, and then board the Brig Pilgrim in Dana Point Harbor for an overnight role-play of hide gathering days. Just like "sailors of yore," we will weather the storms of sea life just as Dana did!
Once spring arrives, Mrs. Wessels and the 5th grade girls' moms host their annual "Growing Up Tea." The girls get all dressed up and enjoy an evening at one of their homes. A very special devotion time is spent looking into God's Word as the qualities of godly women are revealed. Precious memories are made! Here, Mrs. Wessels poses with a group of "her" girls. CHEESE!
With Him in our midst,
MacKenzie, Danny, Abigail, Dakota, and Madison
Jeffrey, Katrina, Ryan, Chelsea, Dylan, Lily, and Dillon

Hi there!
Mrs. Wessels here. What a treat it is to teach all about God, God's Word, and God's world! It is not only a joy to teach these energetic boys and girls, it is a sincere pleasure to learn from them as well. A native of upstate New York, I have lived here in southern California and taught at LCS for the past 17 years. All three of my children (Laura, 28; Greg, 25; and Brian, 22) attended Liberty, so LCS is family to us. To think that this year marks my 25th year in a classroom! My heart is full of wonderful memories--many like the ones above! It is my goal to help children grow in the knowledge of Him, understanding just how awesome and wonderfully-made we and this world are! A favorite verse that keeps life in focus for me is Galatians 5:13, "...through love serve one another." And so, it is for HIS glory that we learn together and serve one another with HIS love!
Hugs!
