What a blessing it is to welcome another crop of bright and enthusiastic students to my Kindergarten class! On Thursday, September 1st, 14 new students arrived on campus ready for a wonderful, Bible based, academically challenging year ahead! We'll be learning a wide variety of subjects including Phonics, Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and of course Bible! Our curriculum also includes enrichment programs such as Art, Physical Education, Music, Technology Projects, Library and Spanish.
Reading Groups
Small reading groups are conducted three times a week using weekly books and supplemental phonics stories. Students receive individual attention and frequent practice perfecting newly acquired reading skills. Readers are leaders!
Phonics/Language Arts: The Kindergarten curriculum is a phonetically based program which teaches reading, reading comprehension, sight words, sentence construction, creative writing and pre-cursive
penmanship.
Firefighter Noah came for a visit to teach us about fire safety and to enhance our Community Helpers studies.
Mathematics: In the Math, the focus is on number recognition, counting skills(by ones, twos, fives and tens),patterns, geometric shapes, spacial concepts, weights and measures, telling time, addition/subtraction, and practical use of coins
The Fresh & Easy Fundraiser on October 10th was a great opportunity to learn about community helpers in the grocery business but also a wonderful way to help raise money for our school!
Fisher and his mom did a great job bagging groceries!

Hands-On Math Learning



Bible: Students are introduced to the Old and New Testaments including God's creation of the world, the fall of man and God's plan for salvation, the life of Christ, His crucifixion and resurrection and God's plan to use people to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Children will memorize and recite weekly Bible verses that enhance the lessons.
Community Building Projects
Here are some of the community buildings the students created for our Community Unit! Some other examples of buildings mad were a Ballet studio, a pet shop, an office complex, a library, and a baseball stadium just to mention a few! Lot's of creativity and enthusiasm were put into this project and the students enjoyed presenting their buildings as well as playing "Community" in our classroom enhanced with vehicles and play people!


Bryce made a fire station equipped with an American flag and fire fighting vehicles! Julia made a school with all the trimmings including chalkboards, desks and books!

Long made a Karate school complete with an authentic grass roof and beautiful Asian accents

Social Studies: The students learn about our community, community helpers, American symbols, landmarks, historical people of note such as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Martin Luther King, geography of the world, days of the week, months of the year, seasons, transportation, good manners, healthy habits and safety procedures.
Science: The Science studies include a variety of topics with hands-on science activities to enhance understanding. Included are magnets, the water cycle, what makes fire burn and fire safety, germs and how to avoid them, nutrition, animal habitats, seasons and weather, the growing cycle of plants and their parts, sea life, bird migration, animal hibernation, and the life cycles of frogs, butterflies, and fish. All topics are studied with respect to the purposeful design of our creator and heavenly Father.

A little about me: I am married to Doug Lapporte and we have two children, Erik, age 17 and Allie, age 14. We reside in Huntington Beach and are members of CrossPoint Church. I have been blessed with the best job in the world; teaching Kindergarten! It's more than just a job for me, it's a passion! This will be my fourth year of teaching Kindergarten with six years prior to that teaching Pre-Kindergarten at Liberty Christian Preschool. My B.S. in Early Childhood Education hails from Colorado State University. I love animals and have several pets including a dog, cat, and a bird. My favorite outdoor activities are snow skiing, white water river rafting, walking my dog and floating on a really good inflatable pool chair with a wonderful book! Favorite indoor activities include cooking for my family and friends, reading, bowling, playing games such as Scrabble, supporting my kids as they perform and compete in their interests, and spending leisure time with my family.
