Language Arts:

The language arts curriculum at LCS is rich in writing. We have been trained at the UCI Writing Project and use the principles of this approach to writing schoolwide.  4th grade is a year of  transition from "learning to write and read" to "writing and reading to learn."

*Students use their reading skills to research topics in other curricular areas such as science and history.

*Our study of the Bible is an adventure that takes place during the language arts block of time. We study the attributes of God and learn memory verses set to music. This enables students to remember God's Word and truly hide it in their hearts.

*Spelling lessons are also part of the language arts program.

Math: last year's 4th graders hard at work on math :)

Math is learned as a result of utilizing several tools:
* the ACSI text book - with manipulatives to conceptualize the learning
* Mad Dog Math - an exciting program that really gets students excited learning multiplication facts. Students will be earning ice cream scoops that will materialize into real ice cream sundaes in May.  I expect great success by the end of the year.
* Mountain Math - a program that reinforces prior learning and presents opportunities for review on a weekly basis so concepts are retained.

In addition to our core subjects in the area of Language Arts and Math, 4th grade focuses on  Science and History with field trips to enhance the curriculum. 4th graders are also encouraged to participate in electives such as band, choir, handbells, and praise band. Other enhancement activities that students participate in weekly include P.E., Media class, and library time.
