My name is Robin Smith and I am the First Grade Teacher at Liberty Christian School. This will be my fifth year teaching at LCS. God is truly in this place and it is an awesome place to be!
I graduated from Long Beach State University with a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Development. I also hold a California State Teaching Credential that I received from Long Beach State. I taught Preschool for 4 years and have taught Elementary School now for 13 years.
I have been a Christian since I was six years old. I absolutely love teaching children and I consider it a privilege to serve the Lord teaching.
In First Grade, we learn all about how God created our big world in seven days and how He created man in His own image. We learn how Abraham pleased God by his Faith! We study about Joseph and Moses and we study the life of Jesus when He was on this earth.
We learn word families and new sight words in our Language/Phonics lessons. We also learn about suffix words, compounds words, antonyms, synonyms and the various signs of punctuation that enhances reading skills.
In Math, we learn place value, story problems, measures of capacity, and money concepts. We plug through Mad Dog Math, a daily drill for learning addition and subtraction math facts. The student's love it!
In Spelling, we play Spelling Bingo. It is used as a tool to help the students learn many new spelling words. The students also learn to write down sentences that are dictated to them.
We will be going on 3 Field Trips this year. In October, we will walk over to our local pumpkin patch, go on a tour, learn about growing and harvesting crops and pick out our very own pumpkin to take home! In November, we will travel up to Long Beach and visit the El Dorado Nature Center where will will go on a mile hike and see and and experiences nature. In April, we will visit the Farm at the Orange County Fairgrounds. We will see baby pigs and cows and will be able to plant our very own vegetable plant to bring home.
Many exciting things are planned for this new year! I am excited to see all that God has in store for us!
I am looking forward to a grand new year with my new First Graders!
We are going to learn all kinds of new things, make new friends and have a lot of fun!
